Doing a PhD thesis is the way to access a career in research. However, several factors exist that hinder or prevent optimal work in research. Those factors include economic issues, which impact work quality, professional training issues and mood perception during the PhD, such as loneliness, pressure, lack of advisors and inappropriate leadership. This situation affects directly to the mental health of the predoctoral researcher, and may favor the abandonment of the doctoral thesis and a career in research.
SciDF offers a participative workshop with which we present some of the reasons why mood perception is affected in research, together with the characters involved in those difficulties (researchers, financiers, directors of research institutes and thesis directors), and the connection existing between them. We prove that possible solutions that guarantee researcher’s well-being depend on the interrelationship between all the players, communication among them, and essentially, of general awareness that must be assumed regarding this issue.
