Music & Neuroscience: what is their influence in your brain and health?
Music is the art of combining sounds in time in such a peculiar way that it causes pleasure. Being the sound a pressure wave, music is only a combination of those. How could it be that, due to the complex vibration of the eardrum caused by these waves, people's hair stand on end? Or that makes us move our whole body in harmony with other people’s bodies? How does our brain extract those patterns of sound combination that will eventually create feelings of pleasure and evoke episodes in our lives? We talk about music and neuroscience and how it can affect your brain and health, using music therapy as an example. Music therapy is defined as the scientific and systematic use of music and all kinds of musical experiences in an interpersonal process that facilitates behavior changes in those who suffer physical, cognitive and/or emotional problems. Music therapy is used in the hospitalization phase as a healing resource for patients and their families. This conference organized by SciDF discussed the effects ial effects as a treatment for patients and their families.
